Boyd Senior, Managing Director of Senior Construction describes himself as an “old school” builder with a modern attitude. “I left school at the age of 16 and started working for my father on residential construction, this turned into a building apprenticeship where I gained my trade certificate in carpentry in 1990. Being a two man team we did everything from hand digging the foundations to putting in the letter box and building the fence”
'old school' builder with a modern attitude.
Boyd spent many years building houses on the North Shore before heading overseas. After a brief 2 year stretch on a super yacht as 2nd mate Boyd met his wife Lucy in New York City and quickly jumped ship and made New York his home for 6 years.
With a good construction background he quickly found work as head project manager for Capital Improvement Services, a NY based construction company specializing in high-end fashion store contracts.
“The challenges that were part of the project management of these stores kept me constantly adapting my knowledge of construction; the amount of detail and quality of finish were very high and everything needed to be perfect.”
Tight budgets and time frames meant constant measuring of the construction process; this all had to be relayed to the client and communication is something that is paramount in all construction projects, large and small.
